Rogers Cabin

September 25th, 2008

Here are some photos to show our progress over the last month. Nathan and Chantry have been doing a great job putting the cabin together--with a little help from a young local, Elliott Boyd. The cabin will be "dried-in" by the end of today. We expect to begin mechanical installations next week and will receive our window and door delivery next Thursday.

Winter seems to have arrived a bit early this year. Of course, it may always seem like that in the far reaches of Highland County. All of the mechanical installations have been installed and approved and the insulation was fit and our interior is now ready for sheetrock. On the outside, the soffit trim is complete, the windows and doors are trimmed, and the roofing installed. We will spend the next 2 weeks completing the siding and the remainder of the exterior trim.

Cold, cold, cold...Thank goodness construction includes outside AND inside work. With the heat system up and running, it was a wonderful departure to come inside and start on the trim work. All the flooring is installed and the wall paint complete. We anxiously await the floor finishers arrival next Monday.

This endearing cabin has had its interior image established now. Jeff and Chantry paired up to tackle the stair and handrail trim work and only after minimal head scratching, have produced a more than adequate route to the 2nd floor. Willard Robinson installed the cabinetry and counter tops yesterday and Todd Mason installed the Mystic River slate as the pad for the cast iron wood stove. The interior trim is nearly complete and Curtie Gutshall will arrive shortly to apply the finish painting.

The extremely cold Winter has frozen most everything, including our web update, until now. The cabin has been completed with respect to the exterior painting which will have to wait for much warmer weather.

Here are some photos from the final punch list days. We sincerely hope that William and Inga can brave the intense Highland County weather from atop this beautiful knoll.
