DUJACK CABIN

Foundation and electric preparations

The McCune brothers have completed the stone and drain placement for the setting of the Superior Walls foundation. They are also finalizing construction of the crane pad and driveway entrance. Within 2 weeks we should see the arrival of the foundation and will quickly work to complete the basement slab installation as it is necessary to have it installed before the modular log cabin is placed. Andrew and Doug also worked this week to complete the installation of our temporary electric service.

At last, everyones schedule permitted the installation of our foundation system. Because of the hard to reach building site, we had to engage what is called an "off-load" for the Superior Walls foundation; wherein we have one crane to load the walls from the flatbed trailers into a dump truck and another crane on site to load the walls from the dump truck onto the building pad. With safety as our number one concern, everyone worked together and achieved the installation without incident.

The cabin is now dryed-in and the various crews are filling in the blanks. Kevin Seays crew from North Carolina have been working on the log siding in the gable ends, framing the walls and ceiling in the 2nd floor, and installing the remaining doors and windows. We have arranged for John Matheneys plumbing and our own electrical crew to make their respective connections and will soon bring this house to life.

With a brief hiatus by the folks at Blue Ridge Log Cabins, work has steadily been completed on the cabin and the exterior grade.
John Metheney and Ralph have made all of the plumbing connections and installed drain and supply piping to the 2nd floor and the basement area. The McCune brothers have done a wonderful job shaping up the exterior landscape. Cleveland and Tyler, with help from Carl, have backfilled the foundation, installed the water and gas lines, installed the propane tank and made the perimeter of the house easily accesible from all directions.
Doug and Chantry, from our crew, have installed the electrical service entrance to the house and completed the rough-in wiring to the 2nd floor.
The BRLC deck crew arrived last week to begin construction of the deck and front porch roof. By the end of next week, we expect that they will complete this and move on to the next one. Next week will also see the arrival of the BRLC trim crew to complete the 2nd floor and cathedral ceiling wood paneling.

To shine a little light on the subject, Doug and Chantry, from Custom Homebuilding, have finished the upstairs electrical rough in. It won’t be long now before the light fixtures can be installed as the cathedral ceiling and second floor paneling are now complete and awaiting trim. Blue Ridge Log Cabin crew has completed the deck and the front porch roof on the cabin. This will make for a perfect way to enjoy the view.

Blue Ridge Log Cabins look to complete all of their interior trim by the first part of next week. Custom Homebuilding look to have the heating system operational shortly after their departure and the floors finished directly after that. It wont be long now before the interior is complete and the furniture can be placed.

The radiant heat tubing installation has now been completed and waiting on Preston Williams, of Lexington, VA, to tie everything together and fire up the heating system. Gaylon Brooks of BRLC has completed all of the trim work in the main cabin. We will begin the sealing of the floors and logs just as soon as the heat is on.

Well the heat is definitely on, inside and out, so we had no problem getting the floors and the logs sealed on the interior of the cabin. The furniture delivery arrived this past Thursday and the moving in process has begun. Soon Brinkley’s Construction crew will seal the exterior walls of the cabin and give the logs the Dr’s remedy to keep away insects.
Ralph and Chantry have started the rock work on the foundation walls and the prep work for the patio under the porch area. The rock look on the foundation really makes the cabin fit in with its mountain surroundings.

Ralph and Chantry continue to cut and install the stone veneer around the foundation with the help of Ralph's son Neil. The owner's response to the rock work thus far has been sheer delight. Wayne and Jason were on hand last week to see to the installation of the beautiful soapstone wood stove. With the help of everyone else working on site, the extremely heavy stove was brought upstairs and placed in the living room; Wayne and Jason then began the task of installing the stove pipe through the roof.
Brinkley's painters have continued sealing and finishing of the interior woodwork and look forward to moving their gear outside.
All systems are go and the cabin has been readied for a final inspection as we near the 4th of July holiday.
