ALEXANDER KITCHEN REMODEL

January 18th, 2007

We have delayed posting this job until now because of a lengthy waiting period imposed by the asbestos removal contractor and Virginia State regulations. Shortly after beginning demolition of the existing kitchen, we found many pipes wrapped with asbestos insulation and determined immediately that this would have to be professionally removed. Waco, Inc., of Mt. Crawford, VA, was hired and successfully removed many hundred feet of asbestos laden pipe insulation. Immediately following this cleanup procedure, Doug and Chantry will begin the task of re-wiring the kitchen and Andrew will head up the framing.

Things have really changed at the Alexander residence over the course of a few weeks as the kitchen has gotten a major face lift and Doug and Chantry put a new spark in the electrical system as they continued the upgrade.
Jason Wilkins, Gabe, and Jeremy have done a real nice job laying the hardwood floor down; and the walls have their first coat of paint thanks to Dennis Kincaid’s Painting. Willard and crew, from Robinson’s Flooring Sanding and Finishing, worked to stain and seal the floor this week, which kept all other traffic to a minimum. Next week Donny Campbell, from Walkers Creek Cabinetry, will begin the installation of the cabinets.

Wow...what a busy few weeks it has been! Donny Campbell completed the bulk of the cabinetry installation and we have worked to make all other preparations for the Alexanders to enjoy their new kitchen. Andrew, Nathan and Gabe completed the crown molding installation and began installing the window, door and base trim. Since then, the A-team, Wayne and Jason Hiner, have completed the trim and appliance installations.
The crew from Dennis Kincaid painting have been following close behind the carpenters. Donny Campbell arrived again, only this time with the hard maple counter tops. They have now been cut to fit and are awaiting a stain and finish.
In addition to the kitchen work, Gabe and Mike worked to remove the brick pavers on the patio to make way for an underground electrical upgrade. Jessie and Burton, from Trimble Excavating, arrived shortly thereafter to dig the ditch so we could bury the wire.
Check back soon as we will most likely be uploading completed kitchen photos at the end of next week.

The Alexander kitchen remodeling job has now been completed; with the exception of the transfer of all electrical power from the existing 200Amp service to the new 600Amp service. Donny Campbell, with Walkers Creek Cabinet Works, supplied the hard maple countertops and cut them all to fit. Wayne and Mike were responsible for spraying the varnish on the countertops, attaching them to the cabinetry and mounting the cooktop and marble inlay. John Matheney attached the plumbing fixtures and faucets and our own Doug Zizzi rebuilt the existing sconce lights and mounted them with the rest of the kitchen electrical trim. Dennis Kincaid painting saw to the final coats of finish on all the walls and trim. Additionally, Ralph also enlisted Mikes help with the reconstruction of the brick patio over the new electric ditch.

We sincerely hope that the Alexanders will enjoy there new kitchen for years to come.
